A theatrical event positioning apparently discordant contrasts of the local with thecosmopolitan, tempered by the resurgent aspirations of the South Asian subcontinent.Produced as a walk in a multi-cultural bazaar, the concept interfaced with late ShriHabeeb Tanveer’s highly acclaimed work, Agra Bazaar.
The unique performance inspired by the scenographies of Theatre Du Soleil in Parisalso paid tribute to the legendary French theatre director, Ariane Mnouchkine. Jostlingfor attention within a world receding under the duress of economic recession, Agra Bazaar’s never-say-die residents move in and out of an imaginary city with the TajMahal on a polluted river, finding ways to survive and thrive. The phenomenal growthof unplanned urbanization and the concern for conservation became the thematicalunderpinning of the one-day episode conceived for the Smithsonian Institution.
